Rebeca Nigrinis, a Colombian artist in Oman, who is wellknown for her vibrant representation of things all around her that catch her fancy, is currently showcasing her solo exhibition, titled Vibrancy, at the Art & Soul Gallery at Water Front mall at Shatti al Qurm.

Inaugurated under the auspices of Hon. Lujaina M Darwish, member of the State Council, on January25, the exhibition will be on till February 8. Rebeca brings magic to life with every brushstroke, while all the beauty around her has served to inspire her creativity. Her paintings are a perfect mixture of latino vibrancy from her background and the delicate beauty of the Middle East where she has spent a major part of her life…

MUSCAT: Thanks to research undertaken, we now know that colour affects not just our brains and nervous system but also stimulates our emotions and moods. It is no wonder then, that the bright colours in the evocative artwork created by Rebeca Nigrinis induce a sense of happiness and vivacity. “My art is colourful and vibrant. My intention when I paint, is to brighten spaces with my unique pieces. I feel thrilled to see people displaying my art proudly at their homes or businesses. I always try to create pieces that bring joy,” she says.

Born into an artistically inclined family, creativity was always an intrinsic part of Rebeca’s life. “I painted since I was a little girl and my parents always encouraged my artistic endeavours. I remember having a wall in my room where I could paint,” she says. However, it wasn’t until she moved to the Middle East with her husband that she began developing her love for art and decided to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. An Industrial Engineer by training, her art conveys a seamless blend of her colourful Colombian origins and the strikingly inimitable influences of Oman where she has been living since 2012…

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream,” a famous quote by Vincent Van Gogh strikes you as one enters the studio of a Colombian mural artist in Muscat.

Rebeca Nigrinis is out to prove the Van Gough’s feelings through her works. She works mostly on acrylics, using bright and vibrant colours and is quite a sensation in the local art scene.

Making best use of her Latin American roots, Rebeca’s work on canvas is a blend of her Colombian background and life in the Middle East. Presently her work on the new gypsy series ‘Diva’ articulates African Arab culture and women via acrylic.

Growing up close to the sea has had an amazing influence to her paintings with the Caribbean colours and vitality shown in her artworks. Though graduated as an industrial engineer, she chose her career as an artist. Rebeca is very innovative and for her art is an everyday therapy. Recently she started tableware designs which are hand painted with acrylic on wood and coated it with epoxy resin to give them a crystal finish…
